Publisher’s Summary
“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand. I smile politely, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own….
Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.
I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband, Andrew, seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.
I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out…and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.
But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am.
They don’t know what I’m capable of….

My Review
“The Housemaid” by Frida McFadden is a book that had me torn. It’s a captivating story with lots of twists, but I couldn’t help feeling like I’ve read something similar before, like “The Last Mrs Parrish” by Liv Constantine.
The story is about a housemaid who becomes part of a rich family’s life and uncovers their secrets. It’s exciting, and the writing keeps you hooked into the characters and their world. The problem is that it feels a lot like “The Last Mrs Parrish.” Both books have similar themes of betrayal and secrets in rich families. It was disappointing not to see something completely new.
The book moves at a good pace, and there are plenty of surprises to keep you interested. The mix of mystery and drama makes it a compelling read.
However, it takes a while for “The Housemaid” to become its own thing. If you haven’t read “The Last Mrs Parrish,” you’ll probably enjoy it a lot more than I did.
Overall, “The Housemaid” is an engaging book that combines mystery and drama well. It’s a good read, but if you’ve already read “The Last Mrs Parrish,” it might not feel as fresh.

Book Quotes
There’s something in his expression that sends a chill down my spine. And then he shakes his head, almost imperceptibly. Almost like he’s trying to warn me. But he doesn’t say a word.
