Authentic Books is a subscription service founded by Natisha Asbell, offering a unique reading experience that incorporates all five senses. The company provides curated book boxes that include items like candles, drinks, and self-care products to enhance the reading experience. Founded in 2020, the business started in Asbell’s backyard shed and has grown to include a dedicated office space and bookstore. The mission is to help people take intentional time for themselves and enjoy immersive reading. Also, 5% of profits support children’s education and literacy projects.
How I Found “Authentic Books” Bookstore
In October 2023, I went to Orlando for a concert and had lunch at this cozy little spot called White Wolf Café. Fast forward to this year, and I found myself back in Orlando for the weekend. Guess where I ended up for breakfast? Yep, the same White Wolf Café, totally by coincidence! But wait, it gets better—right next door was the Authentic Books bookstore, which wasn’t open last year. So, of course, we stretched out our breakfast, eagerly waiting for the bookstore to open.
And boy, was it worth it! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Natisha, the energetic and happy owner. She enthusiastically explained how the bookstore worked, just like the Authentic Book Box experience. Authentic Books offers a unique reading experience that engages all five senses. Here’s how it works:
- Grab a tote bag.
- Pick a book.
- Fill your bag with three more items, which can include candles, drinks, self-care goodies like face masks and body butters, chocolates, teas, and cute cups.
And the best part? This experience only costs $39, no matter if you choose a paperback or a hardcover book. Natisha was kind enough to also offer “damaged” books for $35—though I say “damaged” because it was just little things like a crease on the cover. It was an unforgettable morning, blending a delicious breakfast and an incredible literary adventure!
