Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell

Welcome to another book review. “Then She Was Gone” was read in August 2019. I have decided to re-write my older reviews due to the fact that a lot of information was missing such as where to purchase, a summary, and a better-explained review. Hope you enjoy my re-written book reviews.

Main Characters

  • Poppy

Publisher’s Summary

Fifteen-year-old Ellie Mack was the perfect daughter. She was beloved by her parents, friends, and teachers. She and her boyfriend made a teenage golden couple. She was days away from an idyllic summer vacation, with her whole life ahead of her. And then she was gone.

Now her mother, Laurel Mack, is trying to put her life back together. It’s been 10 years since her daughter disappeared, seven years since her marriage ended, and only months since the last clue in Ellie’s case was unearthed. So when she meets an unexpectedly charming man in a cafe, she is surprised at how quickly their flirtation develops into something deeper. Before she knows it, she’s meeting Floyd’s daughters – and his youngest, Poppy, takes her breath away. Looking at her is like looking at Ellie. And now the unanswered questions she has tried so hard to put to rest haunt her anew…as well as some new ones about Floyd and Poppy….

My Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

August 2019:

This book is a great novel. A story that was told in such a great way. You’re trying to figure out if Poppy is her daughter while Ellie’s diary is read. You have a future laid in front of you while trying to pay attention to the past because that story will affect that future.

Today’s Review in more details

I enjoyed listening to this book because the narrator is amazing. The story line is okay as I said prior but it’s not as thrilling as I was expecting. “Then She Was Gone” it’s a jump from the present to the past. You learn about the mother and how her family fell apart when her daughter went missing. Then you learn about the missing daughter and her everyday life. I hoped for a fast and crazy climax but nope it is so easy to predict everything that will happen.. A good story but not a psychological thriller twist I was expecting a bit boring.

(Ps the narrator is the same narrator that Lisa Jewell uses in all her books.)

“I remember being twenty-one and thinking that my personality was a solid thing, that me was set in stone, that I would always feel what I felt and believe what I believed. But now I know that me is fluid and shape-changing.”
