If you know me, you know Sarah J. Maas has had a chokehold on my reading life for a while now. I read ACOTAR. I read Throne of Glass. I survived Kingdom of Ash. And now, with TWO new ACOTAR books officially coming, apparently I have decided the only reasonable thing to do is throw myself completely back into the Maas universe.
And honestly? Things have escalated.
ACOTAR 6 & 7 ARE ACTUALLY HAPPENING
After what feels like approximately 700 years of waiting, we finally have our next two ACOTAR books.
A Court of Splintered Harmony — October 27, 2026
A Court of Forgotten Melody — January 12, 2027
Yes. TWO BOOKS. Less than three months apart.
Sarah J. Maas and Bloomsbury are calling these books part of The Valkyrie Cycle, and I genuinely don’t know if I’m emotionally prepared for whatever is about to happen.
Obviously, the second those dates were announced, I knew what had to happen:
It was time for an ACOTAR reread because who the hell is Koschei?
Back to Prythian We Go
There’s something so different about rereading ACOTAR when you already know what’s coming.
The first time, you’re just along for the ride. The second time, you’re analyzing EVERY interaction.
Every little comment? Suspicious. Every random detail? Foreshadowing. Every character who appears for three seconds? Suddenly I’m like, Wait… is this important???
I’m currently on A Court of Frost and Starlight, which means I’m getting dangerously close to A Court of Silver Flames. And while I was happily making my way through Prythian, I decided this apparently wasn’t enough Sarah J. Maas for me.
Enter: Crescent City.
The Book I DNF’d THREE TIMES
We need to talk about House of Earth and Blood.
Because this book and I have HISTORY. I tried reading Crescent City Book One once.
DNF.
Tried again.
DNF.
And then, because apparently I enjoy suffering, I tried a THIRD time.
DNF.
I could not get into it.
There were too many names. Too much world-building. Too many houses. Too many creatures. Too much information being thrown at me while I was sitting there thinking:
WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE AND WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW ALL OF THIS???
Every time I picked it up, I remembered exactly why I had put it down the last time.
But with the new ACOTAR books coming, I kept thinking that maybe—just MAYBE—I needed to finally push through Crescent City. So I did. On attempt number FOUR…
I FINISHED IT.
And you know what?
I’m so glad I did.
Okay Crescent City… I Get It Now
There is definitely a point in House of Earth and Blood where everything finally starts clicking.
The world starts making sense. You actually know who everyone is. You become attached to Bryce. You understand what is happening.
And suddenly the book that I had DNF’d three separate times had me completely invested.
So naturally, I immediately moved on to House of Sky and Breath.
I literally JUST finished it. And I have one thing to say:
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Excuse my language, but there is simply no other appropriate response.
I finished that ending and just STARED.
At the book.
At the wall.
Back at the book.
Because WHAT DO YOU MEAN???
And now I understand. I understand why people have been telling ACOTAR readers to read Crescent City. I understand why everyone loses their minds talking about the Maas universe.
And I understand why maybe—just maybe—reading Crescent City before the next ACOTAR books wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
So Where Does That Leave Me?
Currently, I am still of A Court of Frost and Starlight but I did finish the Crecent City books.
October 27 is getting closer. And I feel ready for it. I am ready to watch all the TikToks and know nothing is getting spoiled
