My Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Alright, let’s talk about “One True Loves” by Taylor Jenkins because this book seriously had me hooked from the first page. As a 25-year-old who’s experienced the complexities of love and the journey of self-discovery, I found myself relating to both Emma and Jesse’s relationship and Emma’s connection with Sam on a deeply personal level.

The story revolves around Emma Blair, who thought she had it all figured out with Jesse, her high school sweetheart. But when Jesse goes missing in a helicopter crash, Emma’s world comes crashing down. The way Jenkins portrays Emma’s pain and confusion is so real and raw that it tugged at my heartstrings. I could feel her struggle to move on and find herself again.

Enter Sam, the long-lost friend who steps into Emma’s life and reignites a spark within her. I found myself captivated by the complexities of Emma’s connection with Sam, torn between her past and the possibility of a new love. It made me question what it means to truly love someone and whether we can have more than one “true love” in our lives.

Jenkins’ writing style is incredibly engaging and relatable. The emotions in this book are so vividly portrayed that it felt like I was right there with the characters, experiencing every high and low. The author doesn’t shy away from the messiness of relationships and the difficult choices we face, which made the story feel authentic and relatable.

The characters in “One True Loves” are beautifully developed and multi-dimensional. Emma, Jesse, and Sam all have their own flaws and complexities that make them relatable and human. I found myself empathizing with each of them, understanding their motivations, and getting emotionally invested in their journeys. It was like experiencing a whirlwind of emotions alongside them.

This book touched on themes that hit close to home for me as a young adult. It explores the challenges of navigating love, loss, and self-discovery at a time when we’re still figuring ourselves out. It made me reflect on my own relationships, past and present, and the choices I’ve made along the way.

In conclusion, “One True Loves” is an exceptional read that will resonate with 20-somethings and anyone who has experienced the complexities of love and self-discovery. Taylor Jenkins’ storytelling is captivating, her characters are relatable, and the emotional depth of the book is truly remarkable. Prepare to be swept away by this powerful tale of love, loss, and finding oneself.

Movie Trailer – My Thoughts

Let’s get real here. The trailer misses the mark completely. As someone who bawled their eyes out while reading this book, I am beyond disappointed with the “Hallmark” vibe and the choice of fun background music. The rollercoaster of emotions I felt while reading this book is vastly different from the fluffy romance this trailer is shawcasing. Just NO.

Book Quotes

“We are two people who are madly in love with our old selves. And that is not the same as being in love”

― Taylor Jenkins Reid, One True Loves

“We loved each other and we lost each other. And now, even though we still love each other, the pieces don’t fit like they used to.
I could make myself fit for him.
He could make himself fit for me.
But that’s not true love”

― Taylor Jenkins Reid, One True Loves
