Why I switched from Goodreads to Fable

I’ve been using Goodreads to track my books for over a year now—though, to be fair, I’ve been reading much longer. I just resisted Goodreads for the longest time because it looked so outdated and felt a bit “hard” to use. But my friends finally convinced me to give it a shot. Fast forward a year, and now I’m the one convincing them to ditch Goodreads and switch to Fable.

Goodreads always felt… meh. My biggest pet peeve? No half-star ratings! Sometimes, a book isn’t quite a 4 but definitely better than a 3, and that missing detail drove me crazy. But on Fable, you can rate books with half-stars—even quarter-stars—because let’s be real, sometimes we need that precision.

If you’re looking for a better book-tracking experience, here’s why you should make the switch to Fable!

P.S. You can transfer your entire Goodreads library with just one click!

Here are some other reasons to use Fable:

1. Cleaner Interface

Your profile page on Fable is so much better. Right at the top, you’ll see your reading goal, including your best reading streak, goal progress, and average rating. Below that, you’ll find a timeline of the books you’ve finished, organized by the month you read them.

One of my favorite features? A full monthly calendar that highlights your reading streak and tracks which books you read on specific days. Then, it breaks down your genres—mine shows 4 thrillers, 3 romance, 2 fantasy —followed by your average rating and most-read authors.

2. Personalized Recommendations

Fable takes personalization to the next level, curating book recommendations based on your reading history and interests. This means you’re more likely to discover books that truly match your taste. Plus, their built-in AI filters out irrelevant suggestions, so you’re not stuck scrolling through books you’d never pick up.

P.S. BookTok has let me down more times than I can count!

3. Book Club Integration

Fable and book clubs go together like peanut butter and jelly—they’re just meant to be. Finding a book club on Fable is effortless, and choosing the right one has never been easier. But the real magic? Chapter-by-chapter discussions.

And by “discussions,” I mean someone screaming, “OMGGGG, can you believe what he just said to herrrr?!”—because same.

4. No Ads

I mean, right now, the top of my Goodreads profile has an ad for a vet clinic. And my Discover page? It’s literally showing me a map of where to find the nearest animal hospital. I wish I were joking.

5. Goal Tracking

Fable’s goal-tracking system makes it so easy to set yearly reading targets, track your progress, and see your achievements at a glance. Whether you’re aiming for a certain number of books or focusing on a specific genre, Fable’s sleek, user-friendly dashboard keeps you motivated while giving you insights into your reading habits.

And the reading wrap? Absolutely amazing—it’s like Spotify Wrapped, but for books! Adding photos of mine at the end!!

You can also add a widget to your screen to track your reading progress. Your reading progress will be added to the calendar above.

6. New Friends

Making new friends on Fable is effortless because your suggested feed is filled with people who have read—or are currently reading—the same books as you. Plus, you can post anything and everything! I personally love sharing my book reviews, while others start fun discussions, like “What’s a book you always recommend?” It’s the perfect place to connect with fellow readers!
