Publisher’s Summary

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

My Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I started this book while I was on vacation in Panama City Beach. The title spoke to me.

(you’ll get the “it speaks to me” saying once you read the book)

People you Meet on Vacation is a beautifully written novel with two separate worlds colliding. The vacation between Poppy and Alex is the key to their relationship. What did the vacations entail and will the most recent trip save their friendship? You’ll love their story and connection. I can now finally say that a book has made me cry. Please, see the first quote below for reference.

Writing this blog has been more difficult than any other because trying to find the words to explain the emotions this book triggered within me has been borderline impossible. I can not recommend this book enough and I hope you can experience the feelings of this text as well.

Book Quotes

You’re not a vacation, you’re not the answer to my career crisis, but when I’m in crisis or sick or sad, you’re the only thing I want. And when I’m happy, you make me so much happier. I still have a lot to figure out, but the one thing I know is, wherever you are, that’s where I belong. I’ll never belong anywhere like I belong with you. No matter what I am feeling, I want you next to me. You’re home to me, Alex. And I think I’m that for you too.

And that’s how it is in real life too. You can love someone and still know the future you’d have with them wouldn’t work for you, or for them, or maybe even for both of you.

Sometimes it feels like I didn’t even exist before that. Like you invented me.
